PRAYERS OF JESUS

Luke 6:12
In these days, he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God.

We wonder why Jesus chose to go to the mountain to pray? But something significant is that a mountain is a place of solitude and quietness. It is a place Jesus could spend time talking to God without disturbance or distraction. The Scripture tells us that after he returned from praying, he decided and selected HIS twelve disciples. Jesus prayed before making this important decision.

Also consider praying alone all night at a mountain, which we can never do for whatever reason. But Jesus has certainly demonstrated to us the importance of prayer. At another time, Jesus was seen waking early in the morning and went to a solitary place to pray. This was because he would be going to another town to preach.

Mark1:35, 38

Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there. ....verse 38 - He said to them, “Let’s go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because I came out for this reason.

Throughout Jesus' ministry, he was always very diligent in prayer before preaching, making an important decision, or ministering to his disciples.

  • HE prayed alone [Luke 9:18-20] and was able to determine how much the people knew about his true identity on earth.

  • HE prayed with His disciples [Luke 9:28-30] and had a supernatural encounter with two saints, Moses and Elijah.

  • HE prayed after His baptism. [Luke 3:21-22] Heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him like a dove.

  • HE ministered to his disciples when they wanted to learn how to pray. [Luke 11:1-4] HE taught them the Lord's Prayer, an important prayer to this day.

  • After the multitude had left, he retreated to the mountain to pray. [Matthew 14:23-32] Later, HE walked on the water and ministered to the disciples and to Peter, who nearly drowned walking on the water, urging them to have faith.

Today, Jesus bids us to pray unceasingly and to follow after HIS examples. Whatever circumstances we are in, we must persist in prayer.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank you for teaching us the importance of prayer. Grant us a diligent and determined spirit to pray unceasingly, whether it is in good or troubled seasons of life.
