MY COMFORTER AND FRIEND

MY COMFORTER AND FRIEND

John 14:17-18
17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

Before Jesus was about to be crucified and suffered on the cross, he comforted His disciples that though in body he would depart from them, in spirit, HE would come to them and continue to dwell with them.

Not everyone can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Spirit of Truth), except those (His own, His children) who believed and accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Romans 8:9, 16
… Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit
that we are children of God,…

This verse tells us that the Holy Spirit can identify who belongs to God and who doesn’t. Those who do not know him (meaning those who have not yet accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour) do not have the Holy Spirit abiding in them.

When the Holy Spirit lives in us, we can precisely hear His bidding and chiding to be doers of God's Word.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, we receive knowledge, understanding, and revelation of deep and profound things of God. Thus, we can distinguish between light and darkness. And receive spiritual downloads of God’s comforts, encouragements, admonitions, and exhortations.

The Holy Spirit is a comforter, a helper, a teacher who guides us into all truth. Jesus said, “…but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” – John 14:17

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever” – John 14:16 NKJV

The two most powerful gifts for believing in the Lord are 1) the gift of eternal life  2) the gift of the Holy Spirit (to abide in us). Once given, these two gifts will never be taken away from us.

God is ONE, but with three unique personalities and existences. 1) God the Father  2) God the Son (Jesus)  3) God the Holy Spirit. Both the first and second trinity live in Heaven, while the Holy Spirit, the third (3rd) trinity, dwells within the believers here on earth. HE will guide and abide with us forever until we finish our life journey.

Psalm 48:14 NKJV
For this is God, our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death.

If the Holy Spirit can bear witness that we are God's children, trust that HE is also a witness to God about us; and HE bears witness to all the good, bad, and ugly things in our lives. He will convict us of our sins like a judge. The next time you feel a nudge, “Don’t do this!”, “Don’t say this!”, “Apologize to your parents!”. Let’s obey HIS promptings!

John 16:8
And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Having the Holy Spirit live in us is like Heaven coming to dwell within us. We do not need to wait to experience Heaven before we get there. We can experience this celestial (heavenly) connection with God beyond the understanding of those (orphans without God, unbelievers) who live outside of God’s grace, care, and love. God promises that we will never be left as orphans, without a Heavenly Father, but will have HIS presence living within us through the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who comes to live inside me. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for being my helper, comforter, and close companion. Lord, forgive me of any known and unknown sin. Today, I want to pray for _______. May YOU continue to guide and teach me how to live a fruitful, rewarding, and obedient life in Christ Jesus.
