VENGEANCE IS MINE

 VENGEANCE IS MINE

Yesterday, a friend shared an encouraging testimony.

Over the past few months, she had a hard time living with her sister, who is fussy and easily bothered by the trivial. They each have their own lives to manage, church, work, running errands, doing chores, and personal lives. They hardly get a chance to see each other often. However, each time they met, her sister showed unhappiness. She would bang the chair, making some sounds to indicate that she was in a bad mood. When asked what had happened, she ignored her. My friend quietly prayed to God for her sister.

This continued until one day, both were at home, and again her sister suddenly took a chair and banged it hard in front of her. She was frightened by her action and sudden outburst. She felt a chill run over her and was threatened by her uncouth demeanor. In addition, her eyes displayed strong hostility towards her. She had to quickly retreat to her room to pray as she felt that it was not the right time to confront her. But before she walked away, she told her not to behave like that anymore, hoping that she could see God's love and glory.

In her room, she told God that she had had enough of her nonsense and she wanted to take revenge for the repeated bad treatments done to her. She hoped to give her the same treatment in return. In her silent prayer, she heard God say, “Leave it to ME! Vengeance is MINE!”

Quote

Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.”

‭‭

Instead of being bitter, she prayed a blessing for her sister and asked God to show HIS great glory to her.

One afternoon at noon, the sun was extremely hot and sunny. Every day, the sunlight will shine into the longish kitchen area, but never into the living room. But on that particular afternoon, the sunlight was so strong and beaming that it shone into the living room, lighting up the whole house. It was too unusual, as though a confirmation from God for her prayer. The sunlight is part of God's creation, and indeed God showed His glory by making the sun shine into the whole house. That afternoon, both sisters enjoyed the sunshine quietly, each with a different message from God. To my friend, God was telling her, HE gave rain and shine to both the good and evil persons, regardless of their deeds and sins. Hence, she chose to forgive her sister.

My friend saw a change in her sister’s attitude towards her. One Sunday morning, her sister offered my friend some of the food she cooked. Regrettably, she was rushing off to church and could not join her for a meal. But deep in her heart, she was grateful to God for calming the situation and mending their relationship. What has caused a change in her attitude? It is God and only through the power of prayer.

We are living in uncertain times, with intensifying wars, natural disasters, and declining economies. Today, things are moving fast and accelerating, including our prayers. Prayer that took a long time to answer in the past now becomes quickened. Our prayers now go immediately to God, and HE answers us swiftly. This is because Jesus might return sooner than we thought. Those who sinned must repent quickly. God wants everyone to walk right with HIM and does not want sinners to perish.

Revelation‬ ‭22‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.”

‭‭

The bright sunlight is a representation of God’s glory that shines into every dark place of my friend’s home. To drive out all darkness and HIS glory shine into every person's heart.

Many times, we have the right to defend ourselves and fight for justice. Nevertheless, God’s teachings forbid us. The Bible says, "Vengeance is mine!" God should be the one to act in justice rather than for us to punish with our own hands.  When we do not return evil, the bible says, we are heaping coals of fire on our offender’s head.

Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.

May we continue to trust God who is our great defender!
