1 Kings‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬-‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

But if you or your sons at all turn from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them; and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight. Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will hiss, and say, ‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’ Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore the Lord has brought all this calamity (trouble) on them.



These were God’s warnings to King Solomon to remind him of the consequences of walking in disobedience, either on his part or his descendants.

 
Do these warnings only apply to an Israelite king and his descendants? 


Yet such warnings do apply to us individually, whether single or married. Our choice to follow God determines the blessings and curses of our eternal destiny and future generations.

 
To ensure that we and our descendants enjoy blessings for a thousand generations, there is intentional (with purpose) obedience on our part. There is a need for radical (essential) actions to follow God all the way through and not worship God with divided hearts.  One foot on God, another foot on something else. We are called to be faithful and loyal, and set good role models for the next generations.  

 
Exodus 20:5-6 NKJV
…visiting the iniquity (sin) of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate ME, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.


God’s warnings to Solomon about His blessings for him are conditional. If you do these, you will have that. If you don’t, you will get these consequences. 

 
1 Kings 9:4 NKJV
Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments,”….

 
According to the bible, many of God’s blessings are conditional. This is because we are chosen people bestowed with exceptional roles as royal priests and priestesses. We are an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, reserved in Heaven. 
 

1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;….


1 Peter 1:4 NKJV
...an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in Heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 
 

Prayer:
Dear God, though You are a loving and gracious God, YOU are also a God of righteousness and truth. YOU love everyone, but YOU hate sin. Many have the impression that Jesus came to abolish the Law or the Prophets, which they no longer needed to abide by, and Jesus is all about “love and love”. But this is not so. NO, Bible says YOU did not come to destroy the old but to fulfil them (Matt 5:17). All Words of warnings and admonitions (corrections) spoken to Your people of old are cautions and applications for us today as well. Help us to walk in obedience to Your ways, truth, and statutes daily. Help us share the gospel of love with the people we care about and love.  In Jesus’ name, amen!
